1月18日（月）trans_2009_2010アーティストが山口大学を訪問しました。

この日は、山口大学人文学部の藤川哲先生の2つの授業を訪問し、レジデンス・アーティストを紹介させていただきました。

椎名勇仁さんは、これまでの作品を映像や写真を通して発表していただきました。火山焼きをはじめ、椎名さんは自然との融合や、人間と植物の関係性を探求した作品を多く制作しています。その手法はわたしたちの想像の域を逸していることが多く、学生さんもかなり驚いていた様子です。

次に、アルゼンチン出身のダンサー、ヴァレリア・ロクサナ・プリモストは、公共スペースでのパフォーマンス・ビデオを紹介しました。アルゼンチン～アムステルダム～ベルリンへと移住を繰り返してきた彼女は、その時、その環境からうまれてくる人の行動パターンや変化に影響を受け、パフォーマンスを制作しています。

オーストラリア出身のクレア・ヒーリー＆ショーン・コーデイロのプレゼンでは、これまで制作してきた作品のコンセプトやこれから芸術村で制作中の作品を紹介されました。彼らの作品は規模が大きく、また社会情勢に強く反映された作品が多くみられます。彼らの使う素材もとてもユニークで、これからの制作活動がとても楽しみです。

プレゼンテーションの後は、参加していただいた学生の皆さんとディスカッションを行いました。ディスカッションは、アーティストたちの、「公共空間でどのように身体を知覚しますか？」「自分の身体にフルーツが実ったらどうしますか？」といったそれぞれの質問に対して、学生さんたちの自分なりの答えを教えてもらいながら進行しました。その中でもおもしろい答えが返ってきたのが、フルーツの質問で、頭から苺や腕にぶどうなど、発想豊かな答えが返ってきました。こういった発想や、表現方法を直接アーティストと意見を交換することで、学生さんは刺激を受けてくれていた様子でした。アーティストにとっても、自分のアートを通して現代の日本の若者と意見を交換できる、貴重な体験だったと思います。

また、授業の間には、中野先生に大学内に設置してある壁画へと案内していただきました。その壁画は工事中に歩道に設置してある壁に描かれていて、山口県特有の盆地やたくさんの水脈の流れがとてもカラフルに表現されてあり、中でもその絵の中にあるユニークな地図記号が何を表しているのかを連想することに、なぜか私たちは興奮してしまいました...! 山口大学の歴史ある建物の中に、学生さんの遊び心ある作品の存在が、とても印象的でした。

先生方をはじめ、授業に参加していただいた山口大学の学生のみなさん、貴重な時間をどうもありがとうございました。レジデンスのアーティストが行うオープンスタジオや、展示会などイベント盛り沢山ですので、ぜひ芸術村へ遊びに来てください！

trans_2009_2010 artists visited Yamaguchi University

Resident aritists visited Yamaguchi University on Monday 1８th Jan.
First of all, we joined the class of Prof. Fujikawa in the morning. The artists introduced themselves and their art works to students.　

After the introduction, we were joined by Prof. Nakano and he took us to see the wall paintings, which were painted by students in the campus. The paintings were about the geographcal features of Yamaguchi pref. It was all so colourful and uniquely painted and we specially liked the symbols in the paintings. We got excited to guess which symbols represnts what.

In the afternoon, we join the class of Prof. Nakgawa again. In this session, artists did a presantation of their past works repectively by showing some videos and photos. Takehito Shiina presented his works first. He is very much influenced by the nature and its recources. Through the process of how human integrate with nature, his art will form into something very special. On this residency program, he is working on a project called 'Photosynthesizers' using the coral reef.

Valeria Primost, an Argentinian dancer presented her past works next. She showed some video footages and explained why she uses public space to perform. According to Valeria, she gets insprations by a repetition of everyday's life and develops her work through integrating the body with its environment and its experiences of change. As this is her first visit to Japan, it will be very interesting to see how Japanese influence will appear in her performance.

Clare Healy & Sean Cordeilo introduced thier works with some photos and images that they used. They develop sculptural work through a variety of media. They also use interesting materials in order to express their message through their art. On this residency programme, they will reproduce the incident of space shattle, Challenger's explosion by using the Lego bricks.

After the presentations, the artists had an opportunity to get feedbacks from the students and discussed about the concepts of art that the artists presented. One of the questions, which Takehito asked students ' If you can plant a fruit in your body, which fruit would you choose and where?' Each students had very interesting answers and it was fun to imagine how human can cultivate a fruit in our body.
Overall, it was a good opportunity for both sides to share some ideas and exchange our opinions
