鹿島さんが習字のレッスンを実践してくださいました。始めは、論語から『学而時習之』の５文字をお手本として書かれました。鹿島さんの機智にとんだメッセージが示唆されているようで、学ぶ事についてのとても良い勉強になりました。鹿島さんどうもありがとうございました。

山口大学洞穴研究会の会長、大園さんが山田さんのプロジェクトの支援のために秋吉台国際芸術村を訪れてくださいました。大園さんは、今回が初めての来村で、施設の存在や充実ぶりを新鮮に実感しているようでした。大園さんは、山田さんの洞窟プロジェクトには欠かせない人物です。いろいろなところでの手助けが、本当に助かります！

夕方は、地元のアーティスト達によって開催されたニューメディア/サウンド関係のイベント『moids展』のオープニングで芳流庵を訪れ、卓越したテクノロジーやアイデアに触れたり、アーティストやそのコミュニティーの人たちと知り合ったりする、とても充実した機会になりました。

矢口さん（中央、学生服）によるハプニング的なパフォーマンスもありました。馬もいました。

その後は、同会場でアフター・パーティー。遠方から来ておられたエリックやIAMASの河村さんもいらっしゃいました。

YCAMの守護神、阿部さんもアフター・パーティーを楽しまれていらっしゃいました。

ボイチェフさんのリクエストで、山口県立美術館を伺い、日本画担当の学芸員岡本さんに現在展示されている日本画の数々の説明や、時代及び文化背景を聞く事ができました。

ボイチェフさん自身は、日本画の構図や使用される用紙のプロポーション、何も書かれずに余地として残される白いスペースについて疑問があったようですが、今回の岡本さんのご丁寧な説明で、疑問に思っていたこと以外にも興味深く日本画の事が知ることができたようです。

その後は、アドリアナさんのリクエストで、パフォーマンスや日本のダンスなどのお話を聞くために、スタジオ・イマイチの谷さんをお伺いしました。コラボレーションの可能性を探りつつ、二人ともそれぞれのプロジェクトに興味津々の様子でした。

谷さん自身の専門は、実験的であったり、コンセプチュアルであったりするパフォーマンスの構想や演出ですが、能の舞台における『体』の役割や、それに呼応する現世という場での魂の顕在化を意図とした独特な足の動かし方やアイデアなどのお話をして頂く事ができました。

スタジオ・イマイチの後は、同じビル一階にあるカフェ／バーでユキコさんのこれまでのパフォーマンスやそれについてのアイデア、彼女が所属するグループ『ちくわ』の話を見たり聞いたりする事ができました。

ユキコさんは、以前、秋吉台国際芸術村の周辺地域や文化に密着した神楽を実演されていらっしゃったので、アドリアナさんにとって日本文化の一側面をより深く理解する事ができる機会になったようです。

今日は、警報機のテストや火災時のシミュレーション訓練が午前中にありました。

また、文化庁の視察が午後からあったので、職員の皆さんはいろいろなところで動き回っていました。滞在アーティスト達も少しの間、文化庁の方々とお話ができたようで、有意義で貴重な時間を過ごす事ができました。

コウモリの研究をされている秋吉台科学博物館の石田さんのもとをお伺いしました。

山田さんのプロジェクトの上で、コウモリの冬眠や生態系などに極力インパクトをかけないようにする配慮としていろいろな知識や提案を話して頂きました。
冬眠中のコウモリの脈拍は、１〜２分間に１回くらいまで下がるそうで、コウモリ達は１１〜１２月頃から３〜４月頃までの間、冬眠するそうです。その間に、音や光などの刺激で起き、体の体温を高めたり、動いたりする事でエネルギーを使いすぎると越冬できず、生き延びる事ができなく可能性があるそうです。

ちなみに、コウモリの羽/翼のように見えている部分は、実はコウモリの指の間にできた膜（皮膚）のような物で、飛ぶ際には自分の体にかかる重力を利用する事によって飛行体勢に入ります。なので、鳥などとは違って足の筋力はあまり発達（進化）しなかったそうです。

洞窟へ入るときは、こういったケアが必要と言う事でいろいろと勉強させて頂きました。

山田さんは午前から、エコ・ミュージアムの配川さんといくつか洞窟を見て回る機会となりました。それぞれに特徴的な洞窟で、山田さんのプロジェクトに適しうる条件のものを見る事ができました。
Kenji visited Mr. Haikawa in the morning and had a chance to go a couple of caves.
Mr. Haikawa led us to 4 caves that he assumed appropriate for Kenji's project out of approximately 450 caves.

小さく煙突のような構造がある物もあれば、
A one with chimney looking interior structure...

巨大で奥深く湿度の高い物もあり、
A one deep and humid...

また洞窟内が泥とともに入り乱れたものもありました。例年に比べ、今年はそれほどドロドロではなかったようですが...
...and muddy one. But this time, it wasn't really muddy at all.

午後は、アドリアナさんのリクエストでプロジェクトのために必要な萩焼を見に行かれたようです。
Adriana visited Hagi to see and buy Hagi ceramics for her project.

今日は、内山さんの配慮で日本建築装飾や日本画の修復師の馬場さんのアトリエを伺う事ができました。
We visited a studio of Mr. Baba, a master conservator for Japanese traditional architectural decorations.

基本的には、ヴォイチェフさんの以前からの疑問の答えを明確にするためのリサーチとなりました。基本的な疑問とは、日本画のプロポーションや構図、巻物や掛け軸の歴史背景、数に関する事など。
馬場さんの寛大なおもてなしと経験豊富な技術や知識を通して、いろいろな事を学ぶ事ができました。
In this time, we visited the Master in order to clarify questions about Japanese paintings that Wojciech has been wondering, such as composition, proportion of papers, vertical and horizontal orientation of paintings and so on.
The master was generous and treated us with hospitality. We had great time to learn from the master who has rich experience and deep knowledge about Japanese art.

日本画のプロポーションや構図に関して、ふすまや屏風は２つを１組とした物が基本で、間を仕切ったり、風よけであったりと言う役割がありました。こういった組み合わせの数に関しては、偶数が基本であるのに対して、物の長さの単位は、畳やふすまで見られる１畳＝９０センチX１８０センチのように３の倍数であったり、奇数であったりするようです。

たとえば、中国の巻物の全長は基本的に３m、日本の巻物の場合は７mとなるそうです。また、８畳間を家の間取りの基本的な単位としたら、隣り合わせになる８畳間のふすまをはずして一つの大きな間にした時に、７mの巻物が少しの余裕をもたせて収まるぐらいの長さでもあるのではないかと言う事も考えられるようです。

また、掛け軸は基本的に静止した情況で鑑賞するのに対し、巻物は右からでも左からでも横の動きで物語の展開を堪能するのに適していると言う事でした。また、掛け軸や巻物に関する保存の方法などの理由や保管の仕方や薬品による保存手段、携帯する際の利点など、巻物に関するいろいろな知恵を学ぶ事もできました。

また、日本画や日本の伝統建造物の装飾品などを扱う修復師ならではの掟や苦労などのお話をお伺いする事もできました。

大変、勉強になりました。馬場さん、貴重な時間とお話どうもありがとうございました。

今日は節分！ということで、レジデンスアーティストたちと一緒に恵方巻作りをしました。今年のレジデンス・アーティストたちはお寿司が大好きなので、初めての巻き寿司作りにヴォイチェフさんはワクワク、ドキドキ。しかし、さすがはアーティスト（？）手先がとても器用で、あっという間に巻き方のコツを習得し、美しい恵方巻ができあがりました！また、具材も国際色豊かで、アボカドやクリームチーズ入のものもあり、賑やかな食卓になりました。

また、山田健二さんのお誕生日でもありました。

山田さんはこれから、洞窟の中での生活に挑戦します。現在、秋吉台エコミュージアム、山口大学の洞穴研究会＆OB会の方々の助言を頂きながらプロジェクトを進めていますが、洞窟について興味がある方からのさらなるご参加をお待ちしております。
一体どんな洞窟プロジェクトが始まっているのか？少しでも気になりましたら、ぜひ来週日曜日（2月13日)の オープンスタジオ に遊びに来てください。
アーティストたちの試行錯誤の様子が見学できます。

The 3rd of February in Japan is Setsubun, which is a bean throwing festival and was also a resident aritst, Kenji Yamada's birthday! Wojciech, another resident artist, quickly mastered how to roll a sushi and we enjoyed different delicious international sushi rolls together.
Kenji Yamada has been researching different caves around the Akiyoshidai plateau and exploring a possibility of if a cave could be a human domicile. If you're interested in his and other artists' research so far, please come and join us at OPEN STUDIO on the next Sunday, 13 February at AIAV.
At OPEN STUDIO, Columbian artist, Adriana Salazar is going to tell us a secret of how to dance salsa and other Latin steps!

山田さんは地元の宮司さんから、水神さまや以前から疑問に思っていた山の頂上の星の意味、地元の信仰の成り立ちや地域活動の現状など、地域の歴史や成り立ちの側面を知る機会となりました。
Kenji had a chance to meet a Shinto priest in this region and he got to know some aspects of the community near here, such as a story about a water god, a star object on top of a mountain, establishment of local beliefs and current situation of community activities.

レジデンス・プログラムの支援ヴォランティアとして、昨日から幸本さんがいろいろとアーティストのサポートをしてくださっています。
今日は、アドリアナさんとヤズマニーさんと一緒に、自転車で秋吉台カルスト台地へ行きいろいろと散策されたようです。
山田さんも、いろいろと見聞を広めプロジェクトの広がり方や進み具合をしっかりと楽しんでいらっしゃるようです。
A wonderful volunteer/project supporter, Atsuko, joined in the residence program supporting team.
Adriana, Yazmany and Atsuko took a short trip to Akiyoshidai Plateau by bicycle and took a walk on the plateau.
Kenji has been enjoying and steadily proceeding his project with some researches through meetings with local people.

ワークショップ開催のために、西尾さんが秋吉台芸術村を来村されていました。西尾さんが活動を進めている創造的、創作的な衣服のワークショップでした。今回は、料理を作る過程を服作りに翻訳、応用すると言うアイデアでワークショップが進められました。西尾さんの提案に答えるよう、参加者は料理用の材料とともにその材料に見合った衣服を持ち寄ってワークショップに参加してくださいました。
Visiting artist, Yoshinari Nishio, came to give a workshop. His workshop was about mixing creative processes of cooking and fashion. The workshop aimed at translating and applying cooking process to fashion designing. All participants brought one ingredient and one clothes, as Yoshinari announced.

数チームに分かれて、午前中は持ち寄った物で創作料理を調理しました。
Participants made a couple of small groups and they cook together with ingredients that they brought in the morning.

この時点ですでに場は和み、料理と言う日常的な活動を創造の場として再認識する機会となりました。参加者の方々もそれぞれが試行錯誤し、ある物でできる限り幅広くおいしい料理作りをされました。
It was nice and good atmosphere like home and these participants had chance to rethink "cooking" as a very creative activity in ordinary life. All participants cooked a wide variety of food and dishes out of these ingredients that participants brought.

昼食時には、出来上がった料理をみんなでいただき、その出来映えや味をしっかりと堪能しつつ、創作過程を見直し服作りのアイデアを練る時間となりました。
At noon, all of us had lunch together and enjoyed the meal. At the same time, it was great time to look back recipes of each food and to come up with design of clothes.

料理の創作の段階で、その作り方をレシピとしてメモを取っておいたので、参加者の方々は実際にそのレシピに目を通し、服作りに応用するためのマニュアルとして参照することができました。
As they wrote down notes and recipes during the cooking, they could refer to the recipes in order to apply them for clothes' designs.

いろいろな具材の切り方や合わせ方を衣服の創作に応用し、いろいろなデザインの衣服が出来上がりました。
By combining different fabrics and applying creative making processes, many creative and design clothing were produced.

また、それぞれの参加者が持ち寄った物が交換されたり、共有されたりしたことで、創造的な時間を共有し楽しく過ごす事ができました。
The workshop created a rich experience for participants to be creative and cooperative through exchanges and sharing.

出来上がりの後は、それぞれの参加者が制作した衣服を着て、秋吉台国際芸術村の屋外ステージを使用して、キャット・ウォークや写真撮影をして楽しむ時間となりました。
After completing these designed clothes, all the participants did catwalks and Yoshinari documented them on outdoor stage at AIAV.

アドリアナさんはプロジェクトの相談をしに、ヴォイチェフさんはリサイクル用品店へ山口市内を訪れました。アドリアナさんは、技術的な事や日本普及しているメカニック・パーツの事、プログラミングに必要な機械の入手先などを知る事ができました。ヴォイチェフさんは、リサイクルショップの品数や価格に圧倒されつつ、リサイクル商品として売られている日本の娯楽、キャラクター、デザイン、ファッション、伝統品、漫画、知的財産などの品々を通して、日本文化の独特な一面を垣間みられていたようです。
山口市内へ出てくると半日ほど時間を費やしてしまうのが、少し難点ですが都市と山間部の生活の違いを知って生活する事を皆さん楽しむ時間となっています。
Adriana went to talk about her project and Wojciech visited recycling shop with variety of goods, books, DVD, clothes, shoes, ceramics, electric products and etc...
Adriana got to know where she can purchase mechanical parts and programing devices.
Wojciech had a chance to see one aspect of Japanese culture by seeing tons of goods, which seemed really overwhelming to him.
Although it takes almost half day to come down to Yamaguchi city and do some stuff in the city, we enjoy the gap between a city and a kind of a hidden art village in Akiyoshidai.

アドリアナさんは、プロジェクトの文脈となるテキストを書き終え、プロジェクトの方向性が決まってきているようです。プロジェクトに必要なパーツや装置も近いうちに手に入るようなので、そろそろプロジェクトが形になってきているようです。すすきを使って何かをするようですね。
Adriana completed an associating text as a context for her project and it seemed that her project got set to be realized soon. She will also have parts and devices that are necessary for her project. It seems that she will create her piece with Susuki grass.

ヴォイチェフさんも、これまでに撮影した１００近いビデオから選出、そして編集するためにいろいろと思案していらっしゃるようです。今回は、だまし絵とビデオを合わせたところで何かおもしろいアイデアを練っているようです。
Wojciech has been working on shooting these days and he was selecting some video footages out of almost 100 files. It seems that he is almost ready to start editing his video files.
It seems that he may combine trick paintings type project with video piece... not sure but mysterious.

山田さんは、足を伸ばし人類学的に地元の人々からいろいろと話を伺いにいかれたようです。コウモリや洞窟の知識のある山口大学卒の永田さんがヴォランティアとして助っ人に来てくださり、プロジェクトの厚さが増すようです。
Kenji took extensive anthropological study in order to get to know some local stories today.
He also got a good supporter, Mr. Nagata, who has knowledge about Bats and knows the area that Kenji has been researching. The project is becoming richer in the contents!

また、ヴォランティアの幸本さんもオープン・スタジオ間近と言う事で、今回は美東町で広報活動をしてくださいました。
We also did a kind of PR activity at a local supermarket in Mitoh town!!! It was fun and there was the artist!

明日は、アドリアナさんとヴォイチェフさんがラジオ番組を通して、今まで経験した日本出の生活や進行中のプロジェクトを話されます。ぜひ、機会を見つけ、彼らのトークを聞いてくださいね！そして、オープン・スタジオに遊びにきてください。アドリアナさんはサルサのレッスンをしてくださるようですよ！週末は雪が厳しいかもしれませんが、安全に遊びにきてください。

今日は、山口大学理学部の松村博士とお会いする事ができました。山田さんが興味を持っていた洞窟内での居住空間の創出と言うアイデアを少し広げて、暗闇を聖域とするコウモリの生態を理解しつつ洞窟を共有できないかという事で、お話を伺いました。
Kenji met Prof. Matsumura who teaches biology extensively focusing on "Bats" at Yamaguchi University. She gave us some good inputs and feedbacks on Kenji's project concerning about a habitable structure that may allow man and bats to share to live.

山田さん自身がリサーチされたコウモリのための建築と言う前例を挙げつつ、松村先生からいろいろなお話を聞く事ができました。人間とコウモリの空間の捉え方の違いやこれまでのコウモリのために作られた人工的なねぐらの例、また少し話はそれましたが、コウモリ・グッズの話も聞く事ができました。
Kenji presented some previous attempts by other people as references and Prof. Matsumura gave us some stories about contrasting features of man and bats in terms of habitation and lifestyle. But Kenji had a great chance to get to know her enthusiasm about collecting Bats' goods!!!

人工的なねぐらの話やコウモリの習性を聞く事ができましたが、なかなか実現をするために特定で具体的な方法と言う物は難しいようです。
Prof. Matsumura talked about some example about bats' habit and artificial roosts for bats. But she also mentioned difficulty to realize the harmonious living habitation. According to Prof. Matsumura, there must be a way but it is hard to list up particular and concrete method to realize it.

職員の緒方さんが、長崎からお土産を持ってきてくださいました。
最近、秋吉台国際芸術村で話題の動物が何匹か載っています。
Rie brought a gift from Nagasaki!
You see some famous and popular animal in the design on the bag?

昼頃から、山田さんは科学博物館の石田さんと柳井さんにお会いして、地下実験室を見学させて頂く事ができました。
Kenji met up Ms. Ishida and Ms. Yanai from Akiyoshidai Natural Science Museum.
They led us to a cave that has been used as underground laboratory.

今回見学したときは、実験は行われていませんでしたが、いくつかこれまでされていた実験に関する話や、コウモリや洞窟内の生物の実態や現状に関する話を聞く事ができました。
There wasn't any project going on at the moment but they talked about some stories about bats, other creatures in caves and current situation of these creatures.

また、秋吉台観光センターへ寄った際に、古い秋吉台周辺の立体絵図や山焼きの告知を見る事ができました。３月５日に秋吉台野火の祭典が夕方７時より実施予定となっております。
When we visited Akiyoshidai tourism center / bus terminal, we saw a dimensional map and an advertisement about mountain burning. The event is scheduled on March 5th from 7pm!

オープン・スタジオまで、後１日と迫りましたが、積雪のある雪が降りいろいろ大変な１日となりました。見ての通り、まっ白です。
One more day left for the open studio! But it was really snowy day all day today! As you see, snow white!!! Snow, snow, snow!!!

『FMきらら』を聞いて頂けたか分かりませんが、いろいろな苦労があってトークが実現しました。
As you could easily expect that the weather condition required AIAV's Junko to take two artists to radio station at Ube Airport for radio talk. But they made it successfully!!!

夜は、ヴォイチェフさん主催で小津安二郎監督の「東京物語」をみんなで鑑賞しました。日本の懐かしい人情や素っ気なさなど、日本人の心情の変化の一過程を理解する良い鑑賞会でした。
At night, as Wojciech suggested the other day, we had a chance to watch "Tokyo Story" by Yasujiro Ozu! It was nostalgic film depicting deterioration of Japanese family life and it was very educational for all of us to understand one aspect of Japanese culture that relates to change in Japanese people through influence and modernization.

皆さんのプロジェクトが着々と進行中です！
アドリアナさんのプロジェクト用のパーツも無事到着。
ティファニーさんと純子さんは、 鉱山、古い町並み、採石場などへフィールド・トリップに行かれたようです。
健二さんも洞窟関係の記録が着々と進んでいます。
ヴォイチェフさんやヤズマニーさんも、今日は秋吉台国際芸術村に留まりプロジェクトを進められていたようです。

オープン・スタジオが開催されました。先日までの降雪は一応やみましたが、足下は積雪で皆さんに着て頂けるか少し不安がありましたが、無事開催する事ができ、アーティストの製作過程をいろいろな人に見て頂く事ができました。
Open studio took place today! Snow falls stopped but we were concerned with frozen and accumulated snow on streets. But the open studio went on great and many audience showed up to see and enjoy meeting the artists!

午前中は、ヴォランティアの永田さん、幸本さん、谷井さんとすばらしい助っ人に恵まれ、準備がうまく進みました。
We also had great volunteers and the preparation for the open studio was smoothly carried out!

来てくださった方々は、アーティストの製作中のプロジェクトの話や今までの活動などに熱心に聞き入ったり、質問をしたりと、プロジェクトのうらに見え隠れするアイデアや苦労などいろいろな事を知る機会となりました。
It seemed that all the audience were really into their projects and other previous projects. It was great chance for each other to talk about their projects, ideas and other effort that we normally don't come across after completion of work.

広島からお越し下さった川岡さんは、山田さんの折り紙コウモリをつくるお手伝いをしてくださいました。これで、また一匹増えました！
Ms. Kawaoka visited AIAV all the way from Hiroshima! Thank you so much and thank you for contributing making Origami Bats for Kenji's project!!!

科学博物館の柳井さんも駆けつけてくださいました。
Ms. Yanai from Akiyoshidai Natural science museum came to see us!

白川さんも娘さんをつれて遊びにきてくださいました。
Mr. Shirakawa and his daughter also came to visit us!

その後は、アドリアナさんによるサルサレッスンが行われ、みなさんラテンのリズムや動きを実体験して楽しむ事ができました。
Adriana gave a Salsa lesson for these wonderful people!!!

基本的なリズムからステップまでを楽しく紹介してくださったので、皆さんにぎやかに楽しまれつつ、しかも短時間で上達されていきました。
They introduced some basic steps and they danced to latin musics. All of them were dancing in a very fun atmosphere! But they improved a lot in a short time!!!

秋吉台国際芸術村の磯崎新さんのデザインされたホールとサルサ・ダンス。
地元のフルヤさん、山口市内にあるスタジオイマイチから谷さんとユキコさんも遊びにきてくれました。
ところで、スタジオイマイチのイベントが近々、横浜であるようです。
Everybody practiced in a designed concert hall by Mr. Arata Isozaki!
Ms. Furuya visited us today. Mr. Tani and Yukiko-san from "Studio Imaichi" also visited us from Yamaguchi city!

今日は、秋吉台国際芸術村近辺の市町村へ滞在制作展示会の告知ビラを配布しにいきました！たくさんの人に興味を持って頂いて、来村して頂ける事を願っています。お友達を誘って遊びに来てください。宿泊施設やレストランもありますよ！希望の方は、事前にご連絡お願いします。
永田さんは、今日も折り紙コウモリをたくさん作ってくださいました。コウモリを折ってくださる方、急募しております！
We went to distribute fliers at 1 city and 2 towns near AIAV. We are wishing to have many visitors finding this upcoming exhibition and visit us on March 5th, 2011. 永田さんがヴォランティアとして秋吉台国際芸術村に来てくださいました。数日間と言う事ですが、山田さんのプロジェクトの強い助っ人です。
Mr. Nagata kindly came to help us at AIAV today! He will be a great supporter for Kenji's project for a couple of days.

永田さんの大学時代の研究成果などいろいろと聞かせて頂いたり、記録映像などを見せて頂いたりする事ができました。
Mr. Nagata also talked about his research and showed some research materials that he collected while he was going to Yamaguchi University.

みんなで制作展示会に向けた打ち合わせをしました。
Everyone got together to talk about upcoming exhibition today.

塚田さんがそれぞれのアーティストの進歩情況を見聞きし、作品の理解を深め、それぞれに最適な展示の場を吟味されていました。展示が近づいて来て、皆さんじっくりと制作に取り組まれています。
Junko had productive meeting with each artist and had chance to get to know their progress and much deeper understanding of their projects in order to decide the most appropriate space for their work.
The exhibition is coming up soon and everyone is working really hard!

夕方はYICA（山口現代芸術研究所）で、ヤズマニーさんとティファニーさんによるプレゼンテーションがありました。夕食を取った後に、それぞれ約１時間ずつ今までのプロジェクトの話や現在進行中のプロジェクトなどを話されました。
In the evening, there was a meeting at YICA for Yazmany and Tiffany to show their work. After the dinner, each of them showed their work and talked about their on-going project for an hour.

山口市内で３つほど、アート関係の展示やイベントがありました。
There were a couple of art exhibitions and event in Yamaguchi city.

道門商店街の空き店舗を利用した『Link』展。
There was an exhibition called "Link" at a space on a shopping street.

山口県立大学のアートサークルを中心に、個人の作品から他の個人の作品への影響を意識して企画された展示会でした。フロアーには、黄色のテープと矢印で見ていく順路が示してあり、作品だけでなく相互関係をも見比べることに重きをおいた展示会でした。
It was an exhibition focusing on effects between the presenting artists. This exhibition was organized by a group of people from art club in Yamaguchi Prefectural University.

山口県立美術館では、山口大学の卒業制作の展示と修了制作の展示及び論文の発表が行われました。中野先生の教え子の方々も何人か展示をされておりました。
At Yamaguchi Prefectural Museum, there was thesis exhibition and reports. Some students from Mr. Nakano's class also exhibited their thesis projects.

前回いろいろとご好意をいただいた山口県立美術館の前田順子さんと岡本麻美さん、山口大学の中野先生と藤川先生、YCAMの会田大也さんと菅沼聖さん、そして、憶測ですが山口県出身の芸術家、吉村芳生さんもいらっしゃったようです。
Ms. Junko Maeda and Ms. Mayu Okamoto from Yamaguchi Prefectural Museum, Prof. Nakano and Prof. Fujikawa from Yamaguchi Univ, Mr. Daiya Aida and Kiyoshi Suganuma from YCAM and Mr. Yoshio Yoshimura were also visiting the exhibition there.

修士論文終了後は、何やらおもしろいパフォーマンスが行われ、皆さん食い入るように見ていらっしゃいました。
There was interesting and intense performance after the thesis paper presentation. All visitors were really looking into it!

夕方は、YCAMで梅田宏明さんによる新しいパフォーマンス『Holistic Strata』が初披露されました。
In the evening, Mr. Hiroaki Umeda performed new piece "Holistic Strata" at YCAM.

梅田さんのパフォーマンスとYCAMのテクノロジーの合作として出来上がった作品でした。テクノロジーを利用したとても独特な空間の創造と使い方に、梅田さんの表現が凝縮されていて、来場者の方々にとても好評だったようです。

その後は、梅田さんと八谷和彦さんによるトークがあり、今回の作品の経緯や今までの活動、今回使われた技術などのお話を伺う事ができました。

その後は、みんなさんで祝賀パーティー。おつかれさまでした。

Mr. Umeda's new piece was a result of collaborative effort with Team YCAM. it seemed all the visitors enjoyed the uniquely emerged space and performance by Mr. Umeda and Team YCAM.

There was a talk by Mr. Umeda and Mr. Kazuhiko Hachiya about their own projects, Mr. Umeda's new work, YCAM's technology and activities behind the scene.

Yes, after that...after-party! Great job!!!

山口県美祢市周辺で地域文化振興を積極的に進めていらっしゃる吉村さんから山焼きのお話や、このあたりの土地の形成過程、そしていろいろな現状のお話を聞く事ができました。
We had a talk about Mountain burning by Mr. Yoshimura who has been exclusively working on local cultural activities in Mine city, Yamaguchi. He also talked about formation of the land (island) of Japan and other current issues.

２月２０日に予定されていた山焼きは、天候の影響で２月２６日に延期されました。天気はもちろん、土地の乾燥具合などいろいろな条件が合わないとうまく山焼きができないそうです。
The Mountain burning was originally scheduled on February 20th but it was now postponed to February 26th because of weather...
Mountain burning requires appropriate condition such as dryness and weather on the day of the event in order to carry it out.

山焼きの最中は、土地の乾燥具合と風の役割で燃え盛り方が全く違ってくると言う事でした。吉村さんが以前に撮影した山焼きの写真です。
The result of Mountain burning may differ depending on these conditions mentioned above.
Mr. Yoshimura showed a picture of previous Mountain burning.

山焼きの大きな役割は、山焼きをする事により、大きな木などが育つ事を防ぐ事、そして秋吉台の景観を維持する事と、独特な植物を含めた１７００種ほどある植物群を維持していく事、また山焼きを通して地域文化活動の連帯を維持していく事などがあると言う事でした。
The purposes of Mountain burning are preserving the landscape, preventing trees to grow which results in becoming a mountain, preserving particular kinds of plants that has 1700 spices in diversity, and uniting the community through the event.

その後は、ティファニーさんが美祢市伊佐町の産業や経済、下町の建物などを詳しく聞く機会となりました。それと同時に、この地域を含めた過疎化に関する一連の過程を詳しく聞く事ができました。
After the talk about Mountain burning, Tiffany asked several questions about industry, economy and architecture in Isa cho, Mine city. Mr. Yoshimura also explained whole negative cycle of depopulation in the region.

秋吉台国際芸術村では、1998年の開館以来、国内外の若手アーティストを支援するアーティスト・イン・レジデンス事業を行っています。今年度は、71ヶ国378組の応募があり、そのなかから選ばれた3名のアーティストが、異なる文化や生活環境のなかで制作に取り組んでいます。
「滞在制作展」では、三人のアーティストがそれぞれ独自の視点で探求した山口や秋吉台のリサーチをもとに制作したをアート作品を発表するほか、3月5日のアーティスト＆ゲスト・トークではそれぞれの体験をお話し頂きます。

美術家 / ポーランド出身・在住 / 1974年生まれ
ポズナン芸術アカデミー、ワルシャワ芸術アカデミーで絵画の学士号を取得。これまで、西洋絵画のあらゆる技術を駆使し、主に「だまし絵」の作品を制作しているヴォイチェフさんは、今回の初来日で、西洋の手法とは大きく異なる日本画の構図や概念に興味を持ち、山口県内の美術館や日本画家を訪れてリサーチを行っています。

美術家 / コロンビア出身・在住 / 1980年生まれ
ホルヘ・タデオ・ロサノ大学美術学科卒業。ハベリアナ大学哲学科修士課程修了。人間の動作を機械仕掛けで再現する作品に取り組んでいるアドリアナさんは、日本独特の動作を探ることからリサーチをはじめました。日本文化の不可解さや技術面での試行錯誤を繰り返しながら新たな作品制作を試みています。

美術家 / 新潟出身・東京在住 / 1983年生まれ
東京藝術大学美術学部先端芸術表現科卒業。雪や地形、民族知をテーマにしたインスタレーションを国内外で展開している山田さんは、「居住空間としての洞窟は可能か？」という仮定のもと、秋吉台に無数に存在する洞窟を地元の研究者や愛好家たちと探索し、独自のリサーチに取り組んでいます。

2月26日、27日と秋吉台カルスト芸術祭が行われていました。この地域の方々が様々な作品、編み物、詩、歌、華道、舞踊などを披露されていらっしゃいました。
There was Akiyoshidai Karst Art Festival on 26th and 27th. Local people displayed their talents in arts and music.

山焼き！
Mountain Burning!

地元の文化継承や交流に力を入れていらっしゃる吉村さんについて、朝早くから山焼きに参加する機会となりました。今年は、天候不順による延期は１度だけで、この日は草木の乾燥した山焼きに好都合の日となりました。
We had a great opportunity to participate in Mountain Burning. Mr. Yoshimura, who takes an important role in local traditional culture, guided us for Mountain Burning.
It was perfect weather and condition to carry out the Mountain Burning this time. Usually, the mountain burning tends to get postponed a few times. But plants were dry and we had some wind for mountain burning today!

地元の人々もしっかりと参加してくださり、普段の生活からは見えにくい地域の人のつながりを垣間みる事ができました。
Local community people participated and we witnessed the community's unity that we don't notice in everyday.

山焼きの準備としてあらかじめ５メートルほどの幅で火が指定範囲外に移っていかないように草が刈り取られてあり、そこを焼いて灰の状態にしながら、作業が徐々に進んでいきました。
There was preparation beforehand ... cutting plants to create safe zone which functions to keep the fire away from areas that are not registered or admitted for the mountain burning.
Burning grasses and making them ash...so, the mountain burning steadily and slowly proceeded.

木の枝を補強した物を消化用の道具として利用し、火の広がりを抑えながらの作業でした。
We had a brunch with leaves as a tool to extinguish fire. We used it when the fire becomes too big in the safe area / border.

こういった作業がいくつかの地域グループによって何カ所でも行われ、徐々に火が広がり、辺り一面が火の波で覆われ初めて行きました。約3~4時間後には、こちら側の山の斜面からあちら側の山の斜面へ、そして山を越えて向こう側へと言うように山の姿が一変していきました。
There were several groups in different points around the Akiyoshidai that carried out the Mountain burning. We saw smokes coming up over Akiyoshidai and the fire was making waves.
The fire emigrated from this side of the mountain to that side of the mountain and the landscape changed dramatically.

辺りは、草がぱちぱちと燃える音、そして灰が降り、そのにおいが充満する光景が広がりました。
Sounds of burning dried grasses and plants, ash falling, smell of ash...the landscape of the Mountain Burning.

ティファニーのリサーチ最終日となってしまいました。
約１０日間ほど、いろいろな場所を回ったり、話を聞いたりと見聞を広めつつ、短期間ではありましたが充実した時間を過ごされたようです。
夕食は、他のアーティストとともに緒方さん提案の餃子パーティーで、皆さんおいしい餃子をしっかりと堪能する事ができました。
It was the last day of Tiffany's research. It seemed she had quite productive enjoyed her time in Akiyoshidai and the surrounding city and towns by visiting some places, talking to and listening to local people even in the short time. At dinner, as Ms. Ogata suggested, we had home-made dumpling party. Everyone had quite satisfying meal, time and conversation together.

ヴォランティアの永田さんの最終日でした。コウモリをたくさん折ってくださってありがとうございました。
It was the last of Mr. Nagata helping Kenji's project. He folded many Origami bats. Thank you, thank you, Mr. Nagata!!!

また、夕方には中野先生が制作過程や進行情況を見学しに来てくださいました。それぞれのアーティストのスタジオを回り、進行情況を確認してくださいました。
Also, we had Prof. Nakano coming to do studio visits. He saw works in progress and talked with each artist.

緒方さんも永田さんと一緒にコウモリを折ってくださり、とても楽しく生産的な時間を過ごす事ができました。
Ms. Ogata joined in a team to fold Origami bats. It was quite fun and productive time for us.
