Artist In Residence Program trans_2007-2008

[concept]
Trans is a prefix which means to go beyond, get across, cross, exchange, change and convert. The Residence Program provides the time and place for artists to experience new encounters and carry out experiments for their future projects. Participating artists will acquire the new ideas through their encounter with the culture and the people of the area where they stay. And they, in turn, will share new views and ideas with local citizens. After the residence program, the artists will convey their new experiences of the area’s vernacular lifestyle and its geographic conditions wherever they visit in the world. We hope the residence program at the Akiyoshidai International Art Village will provide artists the space where they can go beyond the borders of their cultural borders, exchange their unique perspectives, and establish relationships with fellow artists.

[outline]
“trans_2007-2008 Residence Support Program” is carried out with the aim of supporting young artists’ experimental artistic activities, beyond the borders of art disciplines and nationalities. Residents will be carefully selected by the Selection Committee of the Residence Program of Akiyoshidai International Art Village. During the residency period, artists will create works collaboration with the assistants of the AIAV curators. We strongly hope that resident artists will actively tackle many kinds of projects, because of the “trans” is a primarily project oriented artist-in-residence program.. For instance, we could offer workshops, lectures, school visits, exhibitions, and so on. Resident artists will make proposal to realize such projects.
