Akiyoshidai International Art Village has supported cultural and philosophical exchange among international artists through the artists in residence program, which has been run every year since its inauguration in 1998. Three selected artists/group have participated in the trans_2009-2010 artist in residence program.
Reception is to perceive, to receive the signal, the process of accepting and also to welcome. Each artist will elaborate the "reception", which they experienced in newly acquired space.

Claire Healy and Sean Cordeiro / artists
Born in Australia, 1971 (Claire) / 1974 (Sean) / Lives and works in Berlin, Germany
Claire and Sean, living and working in Berlin and Sydney, are the installation artists, who have worked on the issues of namadism, space invasion, transformation and impermanence through various projects. The pair is working on the installation using 13,000 pieces of Lego bricks to construct the images of the Challenger disaster.

Valeria Roxana Primost / dancer
Born in Argentina, 1978 / Lives and works in Berlin, Germany
Born in Buenos Aires, Valeria has moved to Amsterdam and then to Berlin. Her previous projects include dancing in public space as well as the collaboration with musicians. She has researched various locations in Yamaguchi and worked with local dancers. Valeria will perform on the opening day of the exhibition.

Takehito Shiina / artist
Born in Iwate, 1973 / Lives and works in Sendai, Japan
Shiina is exploring a better relation between the energy of earth and human being through various molding projects. In recent years, he has worked on the science fictional theme, which is to examine what if a human can photosynthesise and if it makes the world better. In Akiyoshidai, he has moulded the local people's parts of the body and incorporate them into a 6m figure of a burdock root, which is a local speciality vegetable.
